Cultural Responsive Trauma -informed Practice
Culturally responsive, trauma-informed practice (CRTIP) draws on Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander knowledges and ways of being to examine how we build trust and create safe spaces where people feel comfortable voicing their experiences, supporting individuals in having agency over their stories.
The Social and Emotional Wellbeing (SEWB) team at AMSANT provides CRTIP training to health and AOD workers to strengthen their delivery of trauma-informed practice – widely recognised as vital in effectively delivering health and other services to Aboriginal people.
The team takes an evidence-based approach grounded in local knowledge to ensure the best possible guidance for the workforce and outcomes for Aboriginal people.
A systems approach to CRTIP
The CRTIP program takes a systems-level approach, working at a personal, professional, and organisational level to develop a workplace culture and environment that is safe and supportive for clients and staff.
We have developed a CRTIP Systems Assessment Tool (SAT) to support organisations to become trauma-informed by evaluating their systems and processes and making necessary changes to their ways of working.
The Infinity Loop: Knowing Being and Doing
At the heart of our program is the knowing, being and doing framework. It sets out an ongoing process of learning to be trauma-informed and unlearning ways that re-traumatise people.
Our program model puts heart, land, and connectedness at the centre of its approach, understanding that each person and place brings their own history, experiences and values to the process of becoming trauma informed.
