Digital Health program

Keeping our digital systems strong for a healthier community

AMSANT’s digital health team supports Aboriginal community‑controlled health services (ACCHSs) across the Northern Territory. Our role is to work with ACCHSs to strengthen the use of digital tools.

We support our members to keep clinical information systems up to date training, forum and system advocacy.

Why this program matters

Strong digital systems are essential to delivering quality primary health care. When systems and data work well:

  • clinicians have access to the right information at the right time
  • community needs are accurately reflected in data and reporting
  • services can plan effectively, respond to local priorities, and advocate for improvement.

The Digital Health Program helps ensure technology supports rather than hinders culturally safe, community-controlled care. It reduces pressure on clinic staff, protects health information, and supports continuity of care when people move between services or hospitals.

Our focus areas

The Digital Health Program supports ACCHSs across the Northern Territory through practical, hands-on support in the following areas:

Support and training

We provide in-person and online support to member services, including phone, email, video and remote-login assistance for digital health issues. We also deliver in-person and online training, including introductory and refresher sessions for new and existing staff, to build confidence using clinical and digital health systems.

Data quality and reporting

Support to improve data quality and assist with reporting for Northern Territory Aboriginal Health Key Performance Indicators (AHKPIs), national KPIs, and population health needs.

Communicare support and user groups

We provide day-to-day Communicare support to help services with everyday use of the system, including troubleshooting, setting up new users, and offering practical configuration and workflow advice. We also facilitate Communicare user groups that bring services together to share ideas, problem-solve, and collaborate on system use, improvements, and emerging needs.

Digital health community of practice, forums and events

We support a strong Communicare and digital health community of practice by bringing services together through regular online catch-ups, shared resources, and ongoing communication. This includes supporting the annual digital health forum, where services share experiences, discuss system changes, and explore future digital health priorities and roadmaps together.
