Services and support
Workforce and leadership support (WALS)
Growing a strong Aboriginal health workforce and leaders across the Northern Territory.
The Aboriginal Medical Services Alliance Northern Territory (AMSANT) workforce and leadership team support a strong, skilled and culturally grounded workforce across Aboriginal community controlled health services (ACCHSs) in the Northern Territory. AMSANT’s member services employ many Aboriginal people in various roles, including nurses, doctors, CEOs, outreach workers, midwives, health practitioners, administrative and support staff, and more—all playing a vital part in keeping communities healthy and strong.
This team focuses on looking after the people who look after the community—from clinicians and environmental health workers to elders, care coordinators and emerging Aboriginal leaders. The workforce and leadership team strengthens workforce pathways, supports effective models of care, and creates opportunities for Aboriginal staff to grow, lead, and stay connected to their community and culture. It also supports AMSANT’s commitment to nurturing Aboriginal leaders in the health sector through dedicated leadership initiatives and project roles.
Programs delivered by the team include integrated team care, elder care support, environmental health workforce, workforce training (including partnerships with the National Aboriginal Community Controlled Health Organisation (NACCHO), Indigenous Health Project (IHP), James Cook University training school (JCTS) and the Royal Australian College of General Practitioners (RACGP), tackling Indigenous smoking, shared medical appointments and Aboriginal leadership initiatives. Together, these programs work to keep the Aboriginal health workforce strong, supported and leading change across the Northern Territory.
